Dry finishing can be particularly useful for certain metal parts requiring polishing, cleaning, or surface refinement where moisture is undesirable. Wet finishing may be preferred for applications that require strong cleaning, cooling, or specific chemical treatment.

Production volume and factory conditions should also be considered. Environmental requirements, wastewater treatment costs, floor space, and maintenance can influence the overall operating cost of a finishing process.

Neither method is universally better.
